BIG JOE TURNER. Shake, Rattle Roll. Live 1954 Performance from Rhythm Blues Revue

This is part of a series of live performance for the short lived 1950’s variety series Show Time at The Apollo which were later re-cut into the theatrical releases Rhythm and Blues Revue, Basin Street Revue and Rock ‘n’ Roll Revue.

This one features Big Joe Turner with the Paul Williams Orchestra doing his famous track Shake, Rattle & Roll.

All footage from this series fell into the public domain in 1985 due to lack of copyright renewal. If you like the music you hear please support the industry and purchase from your local music store or online retailer.

  1. I was 4 years old when this was recorded. It was sad to me how delta blues sorta usurped show blues over time. Show Bluse was so much more jazzy and improvisational. IMHO

  2. That’s for you mom and dad, you where the greatest generation, forever rock and roll!

  3. Paul William’s Orchestra introducing Big Joe Turner Boss Of the blues! Words changed a tad for video purposes. lol
